Talking Type 1 have created a mammoth load of activity and colouring sheets based on the How to Manage a Mammoth book that was published and made available through diabetes teams in NHS Wales earlier this year. The resources include:
- Three colouring sheets of the story illustrations from How to Manage a Mammoth – Colouring sheet 1; Colouring sheet 2; Colouring sheet 3
- A ‘draw your diabetes creature’ activity sheet with instructions on how to upload completed drawings to the Talking Type 1 online gallery
- Christmas colouring sheets, including colour and fold Christmas cards (perfect to send out to your lovely diabetes team!) – AVAILABLE FROM DIABETES PSYCHOLOGY MATTERS
- A ‘Design Mel’s Jumper’ competition with instructions on how to upload completed drawings to the Talking Type 1 online gallery– the winning design will be featured in the next children’s book! (Welsh version of ‘Design Mel’s Jumper’)
Dr Rose Stewart, the author of How to Manage a Mammoth, said: ” 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for families around Wales and beyond. With the additional stress that families have been facing, support for children’s wellbeing has never been more important.
“Along with the recent release of Diabetes Distress and Burnout for Parents and Carers we hope this set of set new How to Manage a Mammoth creative resources for children (and the young at heart), will be helpful for families.”
All paediatric diabetes teams in Wales have copies of How to Manage a Mammoth available for families. Teams can also supply copies of Diabetes Distress and Burnout for Parents and Carers on request as well.
