4.      Staff Information and Opportunities

Network vice chair role

We have yet to fill the role of Vice Chair for the Thames Valley Network. This role does not have allocated time, and as such is a voluntary position, however it will not require a significant amount of your time over and above what you already do as a member of our network.

That said, if you were keen to involve yourself more in network projects then we certainly would not say no! Taking up a network role will give you the opportunity, should you wish, to liaise and work alongside colleagues from across the integrated care systems that we work with and champion the needs of CYP with diabetes across Thames Valley. In order to develop an MDT leadership approach we are looking for this role to be filled by a Doctor or PDSN. If you are interested please contact Myfi.

Lead paediatrician role

In order to be compliant with the NPDA self-assessment framework as a network we also need to have a named Lead Paediatrician for the network. This role could be combined with the vice chair role, and will not require any input over and above attendance at network meetings.

AIM 2- Network Access to Technology Lead

In order to improve the effectiveness of the CYPDN National Aim 2 “Access to Technology” group, we are looking to identify a CYP Access to Technology Clinical Lead from each CYP regional network.  This representative will be fully supported but two regional managers overseeing the group, and will be a key member of the Access to Technology working group.

Role:

  • To attend regular Access to Technology meetings of regional Clinical Leads (meeting frequency to be decided/probably bi-monthly or quarterly)
  • To be responsible for liaising with the regional NHSE regional Clinical Leads/Managers re. tech issues
  • To explore with the CYP & NHSE regional managers whether establishing a regional technology devices forum would be beneficial (for all technology related discussions to include key regional representatives from the ICS, adult and CYP services and NHSE/I)
  • To focus on a regional agenda re. reducing tech related inequalities
  • To raise concerns about device/data accuracy
  • To understand and feedback on technology procurement processes in the region
  • To collect and share national and regional information from the CYP networks and the access to tech group via network meetings.

If you are interested in this role please contact Myfi.

NICE guideline update

In June 2022 NICE reviewed evidence on periodontitis in children & young people with Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes, and have updated their recommendations accordingly. Please see updated NG18 Guidelines here.

Update Sick Day Rules- Network guidelines

It has been pointed out that there was an error in one of the extra insulin tables in our Sick Day Rules Network document. Tis has been corrected and an updated version can be found here. Please update any paper versions that you may keep.

Digibete

You can now send appointment reminders & messages to individual patients through the app. In the Manage Clinic area of the portal you can now search and select patients to send appointment reminders or messages direct to them in their DigiBete app.

The new notification centre in the app enables patients to easily access and view all communications sent through the app, including News items as well as any appointment reminders or messages.

Training films in the clinic portal will soon be updated to include a tutorial on how to use these functions, but in the mean time if you have any questions please contact app@digibete.org

Network Manager roadshow!

Thank you to Milton Keynes who invited me to attend one of their business meetings last week- it was lovely to meet the wider team in person and to spend some time hearing about the service. I am in the process of agreeing dates with other PDUs for me to come out and visit and am really looking forward to spending some time with each of you- it’s a great way for me to learn a bit more about how your service works, what you do really well and the areas that you’d like to improve.

5.      CYP, Parents and Carers Information and Events
