Third Annual Report marks changes and challenges for the CYP Wales Diabetes Network

Mon 19th Aug 2019

Report coverThe Children & Young People's Wales Diabetes Network (& Brecon Group) has published its 2018 Annual Report. This is the third annual report produced by the Network and includes benchmarking audit data from the most recently published set of National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) results.

Dr Davida Hawkes, the Chair and Clinical Lead for the Network, introduces the report, acknowledging that progress in improving outcomes has slowed down. “2018 was a year of change for the Network,” explains Dr Hawkes. “In addition to a change of Chair, we had to replace personnel working on our flagship SEREN project. On a local level, many teams across Wales saw key team members retire and new staff take up the baton.

“Despite these pressures, however, we are pleased that teams in Wales are keeping pace with the performance of paediatric teams in England. Some of our teams deliver the best outcomes in England and Wales, and, as a Network we are committed to aiming for all our units to reach those heights.”

The report also includes a round of Network activity during 2018, including the Bike Beyond cinema screenings in three locations in Wales, the second Type 1 Pathfinder Activity Week in partnership with Outward Bound, and hosting a national conference for psychologists working in paediatric diabetes.

The Report is available to read online in Welsh and English. Printed copies can also be requested from the Network Office.
