Parents, Carers & Families

This page is dedicated to Parents/Carers and Families with Diabetes who live in the Thames Valley Region.

We have dedicated parent representatives who work on your behalf to give views to all healthcare professionals within the Thames Valley region and nationally to improve diabetes care regionally and nationally. Our Thames Valley parent representatives are Maria Heron and Alison Johnston.

There is a dedicated Facebook page for parents and carers that lets you connect to other families and offers you support. You can share your experiences and you will find useful information and details of any events in your area. Go to:  (Thames Valley and Wessex Paediatric Diabetes Network Parents Group).

Please download the Facebook Poster to display in clinics, and forward onto other parents, carers and families.

If you would like to get in touch, please do. We hope to hear from you soon!

Diabetes Through the Looking Glass

There are many books about how to manage diabetes, but this is the first to explain how exactly a child feels about growing up with diabetes and all that goes with it. Using the first hand experience of the author and other young interviewees at various stages of childhood, this book gives a unique insight into the emotional aspects of learning to deal with diabetes, and gives parents the opportunity to better understand diabetes from the child's point of view.
