Dear TVPDN members,

 

Welcome to this month’s Thames Valley E-bulletin. The NHS Long Term Plan was published last week by NHS England. The plan is available online - Networks are mentioned on P55 Chapter 3 Section 3.45 and transition is mentioned too and the need for 0-25 care that is developmentally appropriate by 2028. There is also a summary available from Diabetes UK.

a.      Whatsapp Web

Access Whatsapp Web to save patient conversations with ease. More and more of us are using whatsapp to communicate with our patients and it’s important that we document these conversations. To help with documentation, you can copy and paste conversations using Whatsapp web.

Instructions:

1.       On your desktop, open https://web.whatsapp.com/

2.       On your mobile, go to settings on whatsapp and select whatsapp web

3.       Using your phone, scan the code on your desktop as instructed

4.       A screen should appear on your desktop with all of your whatsapp messages

b.      Diabetes UK: ChangeLabs: Improving transition for young people with Type 1 diabetes

Three ChangeLabs will be launching in 2019 in Wessex, East Midlands and Northern Ireland. These ChangeLabs will bring together a range of individuals to answer the question: ‘how can we improve transition care for young people with Type 1 diabetes?’

Each lab will be 6 months of experimentation, testing and learning. A £20,000 innovation fund will be available for each lab to support teams to create and test their prototypes. There are 30 spaces available in each lab, for further information and to apply click here.

c.       Diabetes UK: Good Diabetes Care in School Award nominations open this month

This award celebrates the great care provided by schools to children with diabetes. Parents, hcps or school staff may nominate a school.

4.              CYP, Parents and Carers Information and Events

a.      FREE Diabetes Wellness Family Camp for young people with type 1 diabetes

Free, fun two night residential family camp for those with a child aged 0-17 with type 1 diabetes

b.      Parent and carer Peer reviewers required

The RCPCH are looking for parents and carers of children and young people with diabetes to undertake free training to become a peer reviewer to help with the visiting National CYPD Quality programme. Parents and carers will learn new skills and have the chance to see how other teams operate and bring new ideas to your area. Please contact diabetesquality@rcpch.ac.uk for further information.

c.       Diabetes UK Type 1events are back

These weekends support children and young people with Type 1 diabetes and their families; it’s a fun weekend for the children and young people whilst parents/carers have the opportunity to meet other parents/carers of those with type 1. Use this link to register your interest.

d.      Parent and carer representatives wanted

Do you have a child or care for a child with type 1 diabetes? Maria Heron has stepped down as parent rep for the Thames Valley network and we are looking for volunteers from the Thames Valley area to join the Children and Young Peoples Diabetes Network as parent/carer representatives.
