Welcome to this month’s Thames Valley E-bulletin. We are still looking to recruit new parent/carer representatives for the network, often the best representatives are identified by their own team. If you know of a suitable parent/carer, please promote the role and share the forms attached. Don’t forget, our first Network meeting is coming up this Wednesday 6th February at the Holiday Inn, High Wycombe. Arrival from 9am for a 9.30am start, please see attached agenda.

Aimed at HCPs, this course will look at 7 areas of diabetes management in a primary care setting.

c.       The Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme

This competency based, online learning tool, amounts to 30 hours of study time. The content is continually developed.

Interested in learning more about weight management and obesity care, the college of contemporary health has a variety of online courses available, in addition to free resources.

3.     Staff Information

a.      Peer reviewers wanted

We now have the opportunity to receive training local to our region. The training day will be 10am-4:30pm with a minimum of ideally 20 people. We are in particular need of dietitians.

Please contact me at Jennifer.hoare@ouh.nhs.uk if you are interested in becoming a peer reviewer and I can liaise with the RCPCH to find a suitable date/location for training. Further information attached.

b.      Self-Assessment and External Verification

2018’s SA report will be published shortly and the next round of SA for 2019 will likely open around the same time as last year ~ May/June.

c.       Quality Improvement Programme Regional waves

Applications to regional waves for Exeter, Bristol and Manchester are now open. Please note our nearest geographical wave will be held in Winchester towards the end of this year. Details available at www.rcpch.ac.uk/diabetesquality

d.      Transition Audit Report

NHS Digital have published a new transition audit report, which linked NPDA and NDA data to examine care received prior, during and post the year of transition by young people with Type 1 diabetes. The report and summary are available here. You can view unit level data.

e.      BSPED DKA Special Interest Group

This SIG will review the BSPED DKA guidelines and clinical management of DKA. If you would like to join the group, please email bsped@endocrinology.org

f.        Whatsapp Web

Access Whatsapp Web to save patient conversations with ease. More and more of us are using whatsapp to communicate with our patients and it’s important that we document these conversations. To help with documentation, you can copy and paste conversations using Whatsapp web.

Instructions:

1.       On your desktop, open https://web.whatsapp.com/

2.       On your mobile, go to settings on whatsapp and select whatsapp web

3.       Using your phone, scan the code on your desktop as instructed

4.       A screen should appear on your desktop with all of your whatsapp messages

b.      Diabetes UK Type 1events

These weekends support children and young people with Type 1 diabetes and their families; it’s a fun weekend for the children and young people whilst parents/carers have the opportunity to meet other parents/carers of those with type 1. Use this link to register your interest.

Do you have a child or care for a child with type 1 diabetes? Maria Heron has stepped down as parent rep for the Thames Valley network and we are looking for volunteers from the Thames Valley area to join the Children and Young Peoples Diabetes Network as parent/carer representatives.
