April CYP Thames Valley Diabetes Network E-bulletin

Dear TVPDN members,

Welcome to this month’s Thames Valley E-bulletin. Last month, Dr Fiona Regan, Jane Haest, Dr Fiona Ryan and Dr Jo Spinks met with the Thames Valley Priorities Committee to discuss evidence for CGM in Paediatric Patients with a view to develop a commissioning policy statement for the Thames Valley region, excluding Milton Keynes.

The outcome of the meeting with the commissioners was positive. The Committee agreed to recommend funding for CGM as per NICE; all pts under 5 years; children who have had one episode of severe hypoglycaemia (requiring 3rd party assistance) without an obvious identifiable cause.

The Committee also plan to include the withdrawal criteria from the ACDC.

A huge thanks to Dr Fiona Regan, Jane Haest, Dr Fiona Ryan and Dr Jo Spinks for representing the Thames Valley network and we will continue to update you on the progress of the new CGM commissioning policy.

Thank you,

Jennifer.

3.     Staff Information

a.    Diabetes UK Volunteers wanted

Type 1 Events – Family Weekenders

This year, Diabetes UK are relaunching their Type 1 Events after a full refresh programme.

To begin with, we will be running 5 Family Weekender events throughout 2019, which will be held at various locations across the regions and nations.

The first two dates to be announced are:  Bristol 31st May – 2nd June & Bolton 28th -31st June

What are we looking for?

We need support from HCP volunteers in order for these events to run.  We would like to be able to provide expertise at each event from across all disciplines within the MDTs.

How can you help?

We would like to recruit as many volunteers as possible, so that we are able to develop a healthy “bank” of volunteers and minimise the number of times we reach out to each individual.  Of course, if anyone is willing to attend multiple events, we will never say no either!

What next?

If this is something you would like to get involved with, please head to: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/How_we_help/type-1-events/Healthcare-professional-volunteering  and fill out the form.

And finally….

A huge thank you!  We cannot run these events without you and your generosity.

b.   Peer reviewers wanted

We now have the opportunity to receive training local to our region. The training day will be 10am-4:30pm with a minimum of ideally 20 people. We are in particular need of dietitians.

Please email Jennifer.hoare@ouh.nhs.uk if you are interested in becoming a peer reviewer.

c.    National website update

The Welsh government has agreed to pay for phase 1 of the development of the new national website which will be developed by Digibete. The national website will maintain its own branding and current web domain and is due to be launched July 2019.

Phase 2 will include a HCP forum, which will allow network members to liaise with all members of the national network; this will promote sharing of best practice. The ongoing costs are minimal and less than the current website fees.
