NPDA Data Submission for 2017/18 - UPDATE

Mon 11th Dec 2017

Dear all,

We are pleased to confirm that the new NPDA data capture system is going live later this evening.  The new system is a re-development of that used to collect the previous dataset earlier this year, and has some additional features:

  • Ability to upload and review quality of data throughout the audit cycle, enabling detection of extraction or data entry entries earlier in the year
  • Summary HbA1c and admission outcomes generated upon each new submission, enabling tracking of clinic outcomes throughout the audit year
  • Ability to order columns by results, enabling easy detection of patients needing follow up to ensure care processes are completed by the end of the audit year
  • Expanded data completeness report showing results from new audit measures, including NICE-recommended care processes as well as certain Best Practice criteria applicable to English units
  • Retention of patient data so that units still entering their data via individual questionnaires will not have to re-enter patient demographic details of patients included in the 2017/18 audit in subsequent audit cycles

The system has also retains the query builder, enabling you to interrogate your own submitted data if you need a breakdown not already provided by the data completeness report.

We hope the new system enables users to spread the audit burden throughout the year, avoid any nasty collation/extraction surprises at the end of the data collection period, and allow you to make the most of your submitted data throughout the year.  You are under no obligation to start data submission now, however, and you will have two months following the end of the 2017/18 collection period (01/04/2017- 31/03/2018) to finalise and perfect your submissions.

Bug fixing

The system has been tested comprehensively with all glitches found being resolved, but given the number of algorithms within it and the multiplicity of different systems used by audit participants to collect and submit audit data, we do expect that some residual bugs will be experienced in the first month or two. If you come across one, we would be very grateful if you could email npda@rcpch.ac.uk to let us know so that we can get it fixed as soon as possible.

Submitting data

Your log in information from the old system will grant you access. Your username is your NHS email address, and if you have forgotten your password you can easily reset it yourself on the system. You can also register any additional colleagues to submit data. The link to the submission platform, full updated guidance on registering to use the system and submitting data, and the 2017-18 dataset,  are all available on the data submission page for 2017-18 on our website.

Further support

If you have a question about submission that you can’t find the answer to in the written guidance available on the website, please do give us a call or email. We will update the guidance and develop some FAQs depending on what additional support we find is needed once units start using the system, and will also produce a webinar to demonstrate use of the system in due course.

Best wishes,
