Principles of care for children and young people with Diabetes

This 20 credit level 6/7 module has been designed to enable students from health, education and social care disciplines to enhance and assimilate their knowledge and skills in relation to working with children and young people with Diabetes.
This module will enable the professional to develop the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes required to effectively manage and competently care for a child and young person with diabetes. It is suitable for those nurses working in all hospital paediatric environments as well as those supporting children with diabetes in community settings. The module adopts a psychodynamic, proactive, participative approach to learning.

Caring for Children & Young People with Diabetes

Leicester Diabetes Centre has developed a new five day MSc module, “Children and Young People with Diabetes”.  Devised and delivered by a team of paediatric experts, this comprehensive course covers issues relating to both type 1 and type 2 diabetes including diagnosis, acute conditions, transition to adolescence, the establishment of good self-management habits and child protection issues. (See page 2 of the attached brochure for more detailed learning objectives.) Dr James Greening and Dr Premkumar Sundaram, both with considerable experience in both diabetes and paediatric medicine, will lead the module.
